Throughout the decades, British Columbia has carved an interesting chapter in the Canadian Amateur Boxing history book. "BOXING in BC" will attempt to tell or outline slices of that history and touch on the here and now such as club shows in British Columbia, Provincial tournaments and the involvement of BC boxers in National and International events. And follow some of the champions such as Ken Lally, Stefn Melideo, and Jessy Brown and other stars or fallen stars.

BC's Golden Gloves
The Golden Gloves Story: by Brian Zelley
To understand the history of boxing in British Columbia, one needs to understand the Golden Gloves tournamnts. beginning in 1939 called the "Sun Golden Glove". The key person behind the tournament
was Billy Finlay of The Vancouver Sun newspaper.

Over the years, there has been many great boxers, some of which earned the special golden boy award including the first double winner for 1966 and 1967 being Dick Findlay. Jamie Ollenbergerwould also be a double golden boy 1980 and 1981.
